Hello, Hunslet Club Community!
Welcome to our July / August newsletter, your go-to source for all things happening at the Hunslet Club. As we get closer to Summer, let’s take a moment to reflect on the fantastic events and achievements of our community over the last few months.
The Hunslet Rogues Drama Group had the unique opportunity to attend Burberry HQ for their #BurberryInspire day, Burberry Inspire is a global programme dedicated to providing safe spaces for young people to explore their creativity, develop new skills and, as a result, foster positive change in their lives and in their communities. Burberry support our arts sections including The Hunslet Rogues Drama Group.
It was an immersive experience designed to inspire creativity and bridge the worlds of fashion and business with the community work and creativity they fund and inspire at various youth zones across the region, including ours. They explored the intersection of art, design, and fashion while engaging in creative workshops led by Burberry’s talented team. The day offered the Rogues invaluable insights into the fashion industry and business alike as they got to brainstorm new ideas and engage in tasks enabling them to show off their dramatic talents whilst adapting them to different scenarios set out by Burberry.
The day at Burberry HQ concluded with an inspiring performance by all the participating groups, providing a platform for The Hunslet Rogues Drama Group to showcase the projects they had been working on. With energy and creativity, the Rogues shared their unique performance which was a mash up of the projects they had been working on previously, blending elements of drama, storytelling, and comedy. Their performance highlighted the group’s passion and commitment to using drama as a means of self-expression. The opportunity to perform at such a prestigious HQ not only celebrated their hard work but also allowed them to connect with others, leaving a lasting impact on all involved.
A great day was had by all and we can’t thank Burberry enough for their support. We have over 54 attendees at The Hunslet Rogues Drama Group every week and at £2 per session this is accessible to all young people in South Leeds and beyond.
The annual Summer Gala at The Hunslet Club was a huge success as always, bringing the community together for a day full of fun, laughter, and community spirit. The skies were gray but the spirit was not! This free event has become a highlight of the year, offering a wide range of activities for all ages, from face painting, fairground rides and bouncy castles and inflatables for the kids, to music, BBQ, refreshments, and games for everyone to enjoy. We were pleased that the police and fire service visited us and spent time with or young members.
One of the standout features of the day was the showcase of talent from different sections of The Club, with performances from Gymnastics, Dance, Majorettes and The Rogues Theatre Group.
The event saw record attendance this year, with hundreds of local residents coming out to celebrate and show their support for the club. The Hunslet Club’s commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive space for the entire community was evident in the diverse crowd, all enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and making lasting memories. At The Hunslet Club, we believe in the power of community. That’s why we’re committed to offering free events throughout the year, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories. By removing financial barriers, we make sure that all local families, regardless of background or circumstance, can enjoy fun, safe, and meaningful experiences. These events are a reflection of our dedication to building strong, connected communities where every individual feels valued, supported, and empowered. It’s about bringing people together, strengthening bonds, and making The Hunslet Club is a place everyone can call home. We know that by strengthening our community we are giving our young people the best chance at success.
The success of this year’s gala truly reflects the strength of the Hunslet community spirit, and we look forward to even more growth and excitement in future events. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special!
Our Summer School Holidays Activity Camp at The Hunslet Club is the perfect way to keep kids engaged, active, and having fun during the summer break! With a wide range of exciting activities, including sports, arts and crafts, dance, and games, there’s something for every child to enjoy. Our experienced staff create a safe, inclusive environment where kids can make new friends, learn new skills, and stay active. The camp is designed to keep children entertained while giving parents peace of mind. We had 6 weeks of fun at The Hunslet Club!
We ran The Healthy Holidays initiative this Summer at The Hunslet Club and it was a huge success, we welcomed 30 children per day to The Club at no cost to their family, ensuring no child goes without a hot meal and safe environment during the school holidays. The Healthy Holidays initiative promotes wellness, nutrition, and active living for local children during the school break. With a focus on healthy eating, physical activity, and mental well-being, we provided a variety of fun, educational sessions that encouraged kids to stay active, try new foods, and develop healthy habits. From dance competitions and challenges and sports activities to cooking workshops and mindfulness sessions, our initiative helped young people build a strong foundation for a healthy lifestyle. It was a summer of fun, learning, and well-being, and we can’t wait to do it again to ensure all young people have access to a healthy environment outside of school.
The 35 kids who made up The Hunslet ARLFC Rugby Camp had an unforgettable experience recently when they visited Wigan Warriors for a day packed with rugby fun and excitement! The trip was a unique opportunity for our young athletes to get an inside look at one of the most successful rugby clubs in the UK, and they made the most of every moment.
The day began with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Wigan Warriors facilities, where the young players got a glimpse of the professional training environment, the locker rooms, and the historic stadium. Wigan’s Warriors foundation staff then led the group through a series of fun skill-building drills, focusing on passing, and teamwork.
The Wigan Warriors facility has a family fun room that The young Hunslet players got to enjoy and spend some down time in before heading home.
The trip to Wigan Warriors was more than just a day of rugby—it was an inspiring experience that helped motivate and energise our young players, reinforcing the importance of hard work, teamwork, and dedication. A truly memorable day, we can’t wait to go back!
