The Hunslet Rugby Camp spent a morning at the DIY Kitchens Stadium with Wakefield Trinity RLFC

This February school holidays a group of young rugby players from The Hunslet Club / Hunslet ARLFC rugby camp had the incredible opportunity to visit the DIY Kitchens Stadium, home of the Wakefield Trinity Rugby League team. This memorable experience was made possible through the Wakefield Trinity Foundation, who organised a special tour of the stadium and its impressive facilities.

The morning kicked off with a guided tour of the newly refurbished Super League stadium, where our aspiring young rugby players were able to see first-hand the new facilities. From the team changing rooms to the gym, wrestle room and media room, each stop on the tour gave the players a deeper understanding of what it takes to host a Super League team and run such a professional operation.

One of the standout moments of the visit was getting the chance to watch Wakefield Trinity’s captain’s run ahead of their big game against Hull KR the following day. The excitement was in the air as the young players witnessed the captains and team members preparing for the match, practicing their final drills, and strategizing for what will surely be an action-packed game. It was inspiring for everyone to see the hard work, focus, and commitment that goes into every game, setting an example of what dedication looks like in the world of professional sport. A great lesson for our young rugby players to witness, in action.

But the excitement didn’t stop there! The young rugby players also had the amazing opportunity to meet and greet the professional players of Wakefield Trinity. They were thrilled to chat with the players, ask questions, and get valuable advice on everything from training techniques to balancing school and sport. The young players left the stadium with even more passion and drive to pursue their own sporting ambitions. Which is why these experiences are so important to The Hunslet Club. We know the lasting impact these experiences have on our young members and we want to continue to inspire them.

The trip was more than just a tour; it was a chance for the young people to see what’s possible when you dedicate yourself to your sport. The session also gave the players a sneak peek into the future, as Wakefield Trinity shared some exciting plans for the upcoming season and the further developments happening at the stadium. These insights were inspiring and gave our young athletes something to aspire to as they continue their own rugby journeys.

In addition to the invaluable experiences at the stadium, the visit highlighted the importance of community engagement and youth empowerment. The Wakefield Trinity Foundation’s commitment to developing the next generation of rugby players and community leaders was evident throughout the morning, making this trip a perfect opportunity for our young people to see first-hand how rugby can play a key role in both personal growth and community development.

For the young rugby players, the morning spent at the DIY Kitchens Stadium was more than just a fun outing. It was an unforgettable experience that ignited their passion for rugby and gave them new perspectives on the sport, leadership, and community involvement. We can’t wait to see how these young athletes take the lessons learned and apply them in their own games and lives.

Thank you to the Wakefield Trinity Foundation for such an inspiring day, and we look forward to more opportunities like this in the future!
